Excuse the pun, but the Seattle Seahawks are truly soaring this season. Following their victories against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16 and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 18, Seattle clinched the NFC West title and secured the top seed in the NFC playoffs. This achievement grants them a valuable bye week, giving the team a chance to rejuvenate as they edge closer to the Super Bowl. This break is particularly beneficial for left tackle Charles Cross, who is expected to make his comeback from injury.

Cross is eager to rejoin his teammates on the gridiron, and he’s also set to enjoy a substantial salary boost.

The Seahawks have inked a four-year, $104.4 million contract extension with Cross. With $75 million guaranteed, this contract stands as the most lucrative for a non-quarterback in the team’s history. Only Russell Wilson received a larger contract, with his four-year, $140 million extension in 2019, which made him the NFL’s highest-paid player at that time.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Cross is set to earn $40.5 million in the first year and $26.1 million in the second year of his extension. Since being drafted ninth overall in 2022, Cross has started in 62 out of 68 possible games. Although he missed the last three games of the regular season due to a hamstring issue, the Seahawks are optimistic about his return for their playoff opener.

Cross still has one year remaining on his rookie deal. Including the team option, he will earn $121.96 million over the next five seasons. His new extension positions him as the league’s third-highest-paid left tackle, with an average annual salary of $26.1 million.

Since joining the NFL, Cross has been a model of reliability. He played every snap in two of his four seasons, and even this year, he was on the field for 96% of the plays. Over four seasons, he has been penalized 22 times, averaging roughly one penalty every three games. Crucially, he has been instrumental in protecting quarterback Sam Darnold, as the Seahawks permitted just 27 sacks throughout the season, tying for fifth place in the NFL.

Cross has gotten his payday, so now his next quest is a Super Bowl. The Seahawks are certainly in prime position to make it happen.
