There, she qualified for the 2016 Olympic squad by finishing sixth in the 100m butterfly event.
Likewise, Margaret also made history by being the first woman to win the world title in the 100m butterfly at the FINA World Championships in 2019.

With a time of 55.83 seconds, she set new Canadian, American, and Commonwealth records.
MacNeil then participated in the women’s 100-meter butterfly, where she won gold. Sarah Sjostrom, the four-time World, and reigning Olympic champion was defeated by her.
Furthermore, in June 2021, she qualified to represent Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
