Horn grew up in Riverhead on Long Island, New York. He attended Union College in Schenectady, New York, graduating in 1964, then earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in Boston.

Horn has been a notable figure in the world of entertainment business since the ’70s, serving as President and COO of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, as well as Chairman and CEO of Embassy Communications. He also worked at Norman Lear’s television production company, Tandem Productions. Such positions have enabled him to establish a great reputation in the film and television industry, and to earn a considerable net worth.

Horn eventually became disappointed at Fox, which led him to join Martin Shafer, Rob Reiner, Andrew Scheinman and Glenn Padnick to found a new production company, in 1987 launching Castle Rock Entertainment, of which he became the company’s Chairman and CEO. During his tenure, Castle Rock released many hit projects, such as the films “A Few Good Men”, “Little Big League”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Green Mile”, as well as the most successful TV show ever, “Seinfeld”. Its success reinforced Horn’s reputation and considerably increased his wealth. The company was sold to Turner Broadcasting System in 1993, and eventually became a division of Warner Bros.

In 1999 Horn became President and COO of Warner Bros, running the company’s home entertainment and theatrical sectors, such as the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Warner Premiere, Warner Bros. Theatrical Ventures and Warner Home Video. During his tenure at the studio, it was one of the most successful production companies, being a seven-time global box office leader. With Horn as its leader, it released a number of acclaimed projects, both on big and small screens. These included the popular “Harry Potter” franchise, “The Dark Knight” trilogy, the “Ocean’s Eleven” trilogy, the second and third “Matrix” movies, “Batman Begins”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Sherlock Holmes”, “Million Dollar Baby” and “The Departed”, to name just a few. Releasing some of the world’s most successful entertainment box office hits brought the studio an enormous amount of money, which greatly improved Horn’s fortune too. His 12-year career at Warner Bros cemented his status of one of the most powerful figures in the entertainment industry.

In 2012 he joined The Walt Disney Studios, becoming the company’s Chairman. As such, he has been involved in the studio’s production, distribution and marketing of various projects from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm and DreamWorks Studios, while also running its music and theatrical groups. During his tenure, the company has released a number of top-grossing films, such as “Marvel’s The Avengers”, “Frozen”, “Iron Man 3”, “Maleficent”, “Inside Out”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Zootopia”, among others. Being part of such a major studio leader has brought Horn impressive success and large income too. In 2015 Disney earned almost half of all profits in the film business, significantly adding to Horn’s net worth.
