Claire Syrenne is a cook, a writer, and a participant in MasterChef UK 2025. She has cherished food since she was very young. She shared: “My dad grew lots of fruits and vegetables, and I remember picking them from the age of six.”

Claire began cooking around the age of 12. She told the BBC: “I remember being curious about how dinner was made when I was eight and then asking to help measure ingredients, eventually progressing to preparing entire meals when I was about 12.”

The biggest influences on her cooking style are “home-grown vegetables.” She explained, “I’m also inspired by dishes from my travels worldwide and the deep culinary traditions of my husband’s Danish family. I’ve embraced a love for Scandinavian flavors and techniques, many of which have been incorporated into our own family’s food traditions.”

“I’m a Yorkshire girl at heart, so I strongly believe in the benefits of gravy and custard, with at least one portion a week keeping me grounded!”

Chef Claire Syrenne is a contestant on the 21st series of MasterChef UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Claire mentioned it was her husband who encouraged her to enter MasterChef so that “I could celebrate how much cooking has meant to me in the last nine years during a challenging time in my life.”

She said in another interview: “He suggested I apply for MasterChef as a way of celebrating how far I had come and how cooking helped me find my way. Thank goodness he did because my MasterChef adventure restored a huge part of my confidence and gave me a chance to celebrate my strength.”

Claire will be competing in the BBC’s MasterChef semi-finals alongside Harry Maguire, Hazel Coates, Henry Phillips, Munopa Nhete, Olivia Balzano, Sam Kaeokon and Sophie Sugrue.
