Marc Lemieux Biography – Marc Lemieux Wiki

Marc Lemieux, officially known as Marc C. Lemieux, has stepped into the esteemed role of Assignment Judge for the Monmouth Vicinage in New Jersey’s Superior Court as of June 2023. This appointment follows the untimely passing of Judge Lisa P. Thornton, who left a significant legacy during her 15 years on the bench, with the last nine as the assignment judge. Thornton’s passing on May 26, 2023, at the age of 59, was a profound loss for the community and judiciary alike.

New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner acknowledged the void left by Judge Thornton, stating, “The Monmouth Vicinage and the State Judiciary lost a true leader. We miss Judge Thornton’s indomitable spirit and know that her influence and vision will continue to guide the work of the vicinage for years to come.” He expressed confidence in Lemieux’s ability to follow in her footsteps, emphasizing the need to maintain the high standard of public service that Thornton exemplified.

In accepting this significant responsibility, Judge Lemieux shared his sentiments, stating, “I am humbled to take on this new role. Judge Thornton was a dear friend and the consummate professional. We will work hard to honor her legacy.” His words reflect both respect for his predecessor and a commitment to uphold the values she championed.

Judge Lemieux’s journey to this prominent position began when he was nominated by former Governor Chris Christie, joining the bench in August 2017. Initially serving in the civil division of the Monmouth Vicinage, Lemieux transitioned to the criminal division in July 2019, where his leadership skills were recognized with his appointment as presiding judge by September 2021.

Before his tenure on the bench, Lemieux built a robust career in prosecution. Starting as a law clerk in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office in 1996, he rose through the ranks to become an influential figure. His roles included assistant prosecutor, head of the prosecutor’s family division, and director of investigations. By 2014, he had ascended to first assistant prosecutor, the second-highest position in the office. His extensive experience in the legal field has undoubtedly prepared him for the challenges of his new role.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Lemieux was a career prosecutor, starting out in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office as a law clerk in 1996. He served in positions of assistant prosecutor, head of the prosecutor’s family division, head of the major crimes bureau and director of investigations before becoming second in command of the office as first assistant prosecutor in 2014.

Judge Lemieux earned his undergraduate degree from Trenton State College, now known as The College of New Jersey, and his law degree from Widener University School of Law. He is a member of the Monmouth Bar Association.
