Mark O’Brien Biography – Mark O’Brien Wiki

Mark O’Brien, an accomplished Irish chef, is making waves on BBC One’s MasterChef: The Professionals 2026. As the chef patron at Willy’s in Margate, Kent, Mark brings a wealth of experience from notable culinary spots like Coppinger Row in Dublin, The Dairy in London’s Clapham, and Samphire in Whitstable. He also previously helmed his own Carolina-style barbecue venture, Snake Oil Barbecue, in Margate.

Originally from Dublin, Mark initially embarked on a different path, studying medicinal chemistry and chemical biology at University College Dublin. However, his passion for the culinary arts led him to shift gears and pursue a career in the kitchen. In 2012, he completed a short professional culinary course at Dublin’s Cooks Academy, laying the foundation for his first role at Coppinger Row in Dublin.

His culinary journey then took him to London, where he honed his skills under the guidance of Robin Gill at The Dairy in Clapham. While participating in MasterChef: The Professionals 2026, Mark also ran his American BBQ pop-up, Snake Oil Barbecue, in Margate. Currently, he stands at the helm of Willy’s in Margate, drawing from his rich background at establishments like Samphire in Whitstable, known for their commitment to provenance.

Mark’s culinary inspiration came from his uncle, a chef whose enthusiasm for cooking left a lasting impression. “He bought me Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain when I was probably too young to be reading it, but it changed everything,” Mark revealed in an interview with the BBC.
