Jaspratap “Jassi” Bindra is making waves as a contestant on “Top Chef 2026,” showcasing his culinary prowess. Hailing from Kanpur, India, Jassi now serves as the executive chef at the Kahani Social Group in Houston, Texas. His talent first shone brightly when he clinched victory on Food Network’s “Chopped” in 2023.

Jassi’s passion for cooking was ignited in his homeland, deeply influenced by the family meals prepared by his mother and grandmother and the communal kitchens of Sikh temples. He honed his skills at the Culinary Institute in Kolkata before advancing his education in Scotland, where he earned a degree in International Hospitality Management from Napier University in Edinburgh. Jassi further refined his culinary expertise over a decade in India’s top five-star luxury hotels before making a pivotal move to San Francisco, where he led the kitchen at Rooh as head chef.

His career continued to flourish when he relocated to Washington, D.C., taking on the role of Executive Chef at Punjab Grill, now known as Rania. Under his leadership, the restaurant gained a spot in the 2019 Michelin Guide and was named a Game-Changing Indian Restaurant in the U.S. by Food & Wine. That year, the Hindustan Times honored him as the World’s Best Indian Chef.

Jassi eventually settled in Houston, where he co-founded Amrina as Executive Chef and Managing Partner. The restaurant has garnered several prestigious awards, including the OpenTable Diners’ Choice from 2023 to 2025, and featured in the Houston Chronicle’s Top 100 Restaurants for 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as being named Eater Houston’s Restaurant of the Year in 2022.

Through his Kahani Social Group, Jassi continues to elevate contemporary Indian cuisine with innovative projects like Kitchen Rumors, Pok Pok Po, bōl, and Jashn Catering, all aimed at celebrating Indian culinary traditions on a global platform.
