Serkan Yumakci, a prominent British antiques dealer, has carved a niche for himself through his appearances on BBC’s “The Bidding Room” and Discovery Quest’s “Salvage Hunters.” His television presence extends to “Salvage Hunters: The Restorers,” which can be viewed on Discovery Quest or streamed via Discovery+.

Serkan, alongside his brother Cuneyt Yumakci, operates Rag & Bone Bros, an antiques shop nestled in London. Together, they specialize in the trade of antiques, vintage items, curiosities, and oddities. Their expertise was showcased on Season 20 of “Salvage Hunters” on Quest, and they were also highlighted in the 2025 edition of “Country Living Vintage Home.”

The brothers’ quest for unique pieces leads them across the globe, with a particular focus on acquisitions from Germany and Eastern Europe. “We’ve explored many countries, including Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland, venturing even as far as Kiev in Ukraine,” Serkan shared in an interview with MyLondon. Initially, they attempted to break into the French market but found it challenging, opting instead to forge connections in Germany where communication and networking proved more fruitful.

Their efforts have resulted in the discovery of some extraordinary finds, such as intricately designed communist-era lighting from East Germany and clocks originating from the historical Trabant factory. Serkan noted, “Our interactions with the Romani dealers in Hungary have been particularly beneficial, despite their well-known savvy business acumen. We recently acquired a collection of vintage communist propaganda posters through these dealings.”

“We managed to salvage some beautifully decorated communist-era lights from East Germany, and also got our hands on some clocks from the old Trabant factory.

“Surprisingly, the Romani dealers in Hungary turned out to be a real asset to us, even though in a business-sense they are known to be quite shrewd. We recently bought some old communist propaganda posters from them.

“We sleep in the back of the van until it’s full. Only then do we start looking at hotels. Wherever we go, we look for something we can buy and sell. It’s an instinct.”
