Richard G. Novak is a prominent American attorney specializing in criminal defense. He leads the Law Offices of Richard G. Novak located in Pasadena, California. With a background as a judicial officer in the Los Angeles Superior Court, he has dedicated over 20 years to defending clients involved in criminal cases, as well as guiding individuals through investigations by law enforcement and governmental bodies. His expertise spans federal and state-level criminal inquiries, litigation, and appeals.

Novak’s academic journey began at U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in economics. He furthered his education at UCLA Law School, joining the State Bar of California in 1990.

Upon entering the legal field, Richard was awarded the distinguished Skadden Fellowship in 1990, which enabled him to develop an innovative legal aid program for homeless youth in Los Angeles. At 40, Richard Novak made a significant career shift by stepping away from private practice to accept a position as a Superior Court Commissioner, a role conferred upon him by the judges of the Los Angeles Superior Court. In this capacity, he oversaw a diverse array of criminal cases.

Eventually, Richard returned to private practice, where for the past decade, he has concentrated almost exclusively on federal and state criminal defense, asset forfeiture, and juvenile dependency and delinquency matters.

Richard is a present or past member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the Individual Rights Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
