Hugh Wallace is an Irish architect and TV presenter, widely recognized as a judge on RTE’s Home of the Year (HOTY) and for presenting RTE’s Great House Revival. He also hosts RTE’s My Bungalow Bliss, a show inspired by Jack Fitzsimons’ popular book, first released in 1971.

Hugh joined Home of the Year in 2015 after receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Institute of Designers. In 2019, he featured on Virgin Media’s The Restaurant, earning a five-star rating.

Wallace is a co-founder of Douglas Wallace Consultants, a prominent architecture and design firm in Ireland. He has spearheaded projects for various clients, including Aer Rianta, Irish Permanent, NIB, The Morrison Hotel, The G Hotel, The Galgorm Hotel & Spa, Milbrook Lodge Hotel, Brown Thomas Group, Clerys Department Store, and Edward Holdings’ developments like Wellpark in Galway, Scotch Hall in Drogheda, and Kirwan’s Court in Galway.

Wallace graduated from Sandford Park School in Dublin and went on to study architecture at Bolton Street College. After graduating, he began working in interior design because there was no demand for architects. A member of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland, Wallace is also a past president of the Institute of Designers in Ireland.

They first met on the staircase of The George pub, a popular gay bar in Dublin, at a time when homosexuality was illegal in Ireland. Born in Dublin, Wallace lives off Clanbrassil Street with his husband Martin Corbett.

Wallace said: “It was a difficult year. Going into 2020, we had a full book and 50 per cent was in hospitality and that was cancelled. Fee income fell off the earth and we had to re-adjust, reduce staff numbers and the Covid-19 payments from Government were a great help. To be totally honest, our business has only recently returned since January and there is hope in the hospitality sector that business is back.”
