Iain Ross, aged 29, hails from Belfast and is an Irish software engineer set to compete in the 2025 series of The Great British Bake Off (GBBO). Originally from Coleraine, Iain has a background in amateur powerlifting. He has dubbed himself the “Yeastie Boy,” combining his passion for live music with his skill in creating sourdough, often depicting album cover art on the crusts of his bread.
Iain infuses traditional tastes with a unique flair, regularly incorporating fermented fruits and vegetables to boost the depth and intricacy of his culinary creations. If something can be pickled, aged, or cultured, Iain is eager to experiment with it!

As a software engineer, Iain Ross is participating in the 16th season of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4. The 2025 GBBO bakers will vie with one another in the iconic baking tent, under the discerning observation of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, with hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
Iain mentioned that when he received the call from Bake Off, he initially believed it was a joke. He expressed: “When I received confirmation of my spot, I was in complete shock; I couldn’t believe it would truly happen. My first thought was that it was a prank. After a few minutes of that call, I expected them to say there had been an error and I wasn’t part of the show!”
“The call caught me at work, leading me to step out into the foyer and speak in riddles. My coworkers passing by seemed quite perplexed and concerned.”
Iain aims to create a new legacy for “Iain from Belfast” on Bake Off. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, he wrote: “Who let this little Irish guy on the Bake Off?! Thrilled to announce my participation in this year’s Great British Bake Off! Wish me luck, everyone, I’ll surely need it.”
