John Foster Benoit, a country singer from the United States, is both a recording artist and a participant in American Idol 2025. He is also pursuing a biology degree at Louisiana State University.
His musical style can be classified as Neo-Traditional, with influences from artists like George Strait, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitley, and Willie Nelson. John has had the opportunity to perform alongside many renowned musicians, such as John Schneider of Dukes of Hazzard fame, Doug Stone, and Louisiana artists Don Rich, Junior Lacrosse, Ryan Foret, and Floyd Brown.
In 2022, John Foster was awarded the “traditional songwriter award” from Showtreff International in Germany for his song “Someone To Sing To.” In 2024, he graduated as the Valedictorian of his class from Brusly High School.
He is a devout Catholic Christian and incorporates his faith into all aspects of his life, including his music. His connection to music was solidified when he experienced the loss of two friends, Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, in December of 2022; he channeled his grief into a song titled “Tell That Angel I Love Her” which brought much-needed comfort to him and all members of his community.

18-year-old recording artist John Foster is a contestant on Season 23 of ABC’s American Idol. The Louisiana singer made the cut for Idol’s top 10, after performing Randy Travis’ “I Told You So” with the old-country twang and Southern manner that have distinguished his performances on the show.
In April 2025, he sang the original song “Tell That Angel I Love Her” in a tribute to his friend Maggie Dunn who, along with Caroline Gill, was killed in 2022 when an Addis police officer ran a red light during a high-speed chase.
Foster told judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood during his audition that he had dreams of becoming an oncologist. On May 2, 2025, Foster launched a Facebook fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, writing, “As many of you know, I am currently studying to become an oncologist (a physician who treats cancer). Whether I decide to pursue medicine or music full-time, I will always be involved in fighting for a cure.”

John Foster’s family owns Benoit’s Country Meat Block, located about a half mile from the Mississippi River in Addis, Louisiana. His grandparents hail from Church Point and Lawtell. His uncle, Gaylen Martin, who is a local musician, is credited for introducing Foster to performing.
During the “Top Ten” show of the ABC singing competition, his grandmother, Verbie Benoit, along with 31 family members travelled to Hollywood to cheer Foster on.
