Lindsey Halligan is an American lawyer with a background in beauty pageants, insurance law, and modeling. Currently, she serves as the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Throughout her legal career, predominantly focused on insurance cases in Florida, Halligan has participated in a limited number of federal cases over the past ten years.

Raised in Colorado, Halligan is the daughter of healthcare professionals. She played basketball and softball during her time at Holy Family High School, a private Catholic school in Broomfield, Colorado. Her academic journey led her to major in political science with a minor in broadcast journalism at Regis University in Denver. She later graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 2013.

Upon earning her law degree, Halligan joined the Florida Bar in 2014 and began her career at Cole, Scott & Kissane, an insurance law firm located in Fort Lauderdale. By 2018, she had risen to the position of partner, specializing in defending insurance companies in disputes over residential and commercial property claims with policyholders.

Halligan first encountered Trump in November 2021 at an event hosted at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, as she recounted to The Washington Post. Trump subsequently brought her onto his legal team amid the FBI’s probe into his possession of classified documents. She played a role in the FBI’s August 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago and was involved in Trump v. United States, a lawsuit requesting a special master to assess retrieved materials.

Remaining a key figure on Trump’s legal team, Halligan has represented him in various issues, including a defamation lawsuit against CNN that was eventually dismissed, and continued involvement in matters concerning classified documents. Additionally, she has become a vocal advocate for Trump on conservative media platforms such as Fox News and Newsmax.

After Trump’s win in the 2024 election, Halligan took on the role of senior associate staff secretary at the White House. In March 2025, Trump tasked her with spearheading an effort to eliminate “improper ideology” from the Smithsonian Institution’s museums, the National Zoo, and other such venues.

U.S. attorney

In September 2025, Halligan was sworn in as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. The appointment came after President Donald Trump forced out her predecessor, Erik Siebert, for refusing to pursue charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey.

Halligan is expected to pursue charges against former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. She will now have the task of presenting evidence to a grand jury that Comey allegedly lied to Congress, and is expected to take over a mortgage fraud-related probe into a home that James bought in Norfolk in 2023.
