Duran ‘Dee Dee’ Abdullah is a recognized figure in the world of dance and choreography, now stepping into the spotlight as a participant on the 2026 season of BBC’s Interior Design Masters. Growing up in a Turkish-Cypriot household, Duran embarked on her dance journey at the tender age of 3. Her passion evolved into a 15-year stint as a professional dancer before branching out into choreography, artistic direction, and other creative ventures such as costume and prop design, as well as photography. She stands as the foremost authority on Shway Style in the UK, a street dance style originating from the streets of 1970s Los Angeles, which she learned from its legendary creator, the late Adolfo ‘Shabba-Doo’ Quiñones.
Beyond her performance and cultural endeavors, Duran founded YUCKY, a dynamic creative platform that marries movement and design. This initiative showcases work that spans movement direction, visual arts, and handcrafted sculptural pieces, designed for both performance settings and as collectible art.
Interior Design Masters 2026
Duran ‘Dee Dee’ Abdullah is among the challengers on the seventh season of Interior Design Masters, hosted by Alan Carr with Michelle Ogundehin as the head judge. The show challenges ten designers to transform eight remarkable spaces, ranging from seaside cabins to opulent castle hotels.
Discussing the upcoming series, Duran shared with the BBC: “Having watched every season of Interior Design Masters, I can confidently say that the seventh installment features some of the most extraordinary locations we’ve ever had the chance to redesign. Without revealing too much, audiences can look forward to a blend of bold design aesthetics and dynamic personalities that truly challenged us to innovate as designers.”
Reflecting on her journey to the show, Duran remarked: “I had contemplated applying for some time, and after ending a decade-long relationship, my sister encouraged me by sending the application form with the advice, ‘You miss all the shots you don’t take.’ She was right, and I’m thankful I heeded her advice, as applying turned into one of the best choices I’ve made.”
According to Duran, the colour drenching is a trend that can withstand the test of time because “it’s not just about how it looks, but how it makes you feel. It creates a cocooning, immersive environment that can feel both dramatic and warm, and it works beautifully in spaces of all sizes.”
