Lia Gold, a talented Scottish-Italian interior designer, is making waves as a participant in the BBC’s Interior Design Masters 2026. Raised near Glasgow in a vibrant Scottish Italian household, her passion for DIY was sparked at a young age, inspired by her father’s transformation of old stables into their family home.
Having transitioned from a career in retail, Lia now focuses on commercial interior design, known for her bold, botanical maximalist creations. She advocates for experimentation and encourages more women to engage in DIY projects. Her design aesthetic can be summed up as “Sophisticated, Joyful, and Botanical.”
Interior Design Masters 2026
Lia is competing in the seventh season of BBC’s Interior Design Masters alongside Alan Carr. This season challenges 10 designers to revamp eight remarkable spaces, ranging from beach huts to castle hotels. Each week, a standout design is selected, leading to a grand winner who will have the opportunity to launch their own homewares collection. Michelle Ogundehin, a renowned interiors expert, returns as the head judge, joined by various guest judges each week.
Lia has been an avid fan of the show since its inaugural season. Her decision to apply was fueled by the creative freedom she experienced redesigning staff rooms in her retail job, which had a profound impact on her colleagues. “I wanted to keep feeling that magical spark,” she explains.
According to Lia, viewers should prepare for the most “ambitious and competitive contestants yet!” She reflects, “Each week, we pushed our limits to see what could be achieved in just two days. We often surprised ourselves and the tradespeople involved. There were many tense moments, battling against the clock right up to the final seconds of each challenge.”
“The talent level this year is extraordinary, and the spaces have a magical quality,” Lia continues. “I think viewers will be genuinely amazed by the creative risks everyone took, even with the looming possibility of ending up on Michelle’s sofa if things didn’t go as planned!”
