Diane C. Freniere holds the esteemed position of Associate Justice at the Massachusetts Superior Court. Her appointment to this role came in 2017 when Governor Charlie Baker, a member of the Republican Party, selected her to replace Brockton Superior Court Judge Frank Gaziano, who had been elevated to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
Before ascending to the Superior Court bench, Judge Freniere applied her legal expertise as Of Counsel at Markun Zusman Freniere Compton, LLP. Her journey in law began as an associate specializing in intellectual property and litigation at Hale and Dorr, LLP, where she worked from 1991 to 1994.
Freniere’s dedication to public service is evident in her more than 19 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Massachusetts. During her tenure at the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), she prosecuted cases in the Economic Crime, Health Care Fraud, and Public Corruption units. Her leadership skills were recognized as she took on management responsibilities, overseeing all white-collar crime units and serving as the Executive Assistant United States Attorney.
Her academic credentials include a cum laude law degree from Boston College Law School, earned in 1991, and a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering with honors from Boston University’s College of Engineering, completed in 1985. While at Boston College, she contributed to the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review as an Articles Editor.
Before embarking on her legal career, Freniere served as an officer in the United States Air Force, both on active duty and in the reserves. Her service earned her several accolades, including the Air Force Achievement Medal in 1986, the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1987, and the prestigious Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service in 2000.
