Mary Bruce is a prominent American journalist and the chief White House correspondent for ABC News, stationed in Washington, D.C. Her reporting is featured on several major programs, including “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight with David Muir,” “Nightline,” and “20/20.” In addition, she frequently steps in as an anchor for “GMA” and “World News Tonight,” and is a regular presence on ABC News Live and ABC News Radio.

In her role as the senior White House correspondent, Bruce has extensively covered the Biden administration and the 2022 midterm elections. During the 2020 presidential election, she was ABC News’ lead campaign correspondent, following the Biden campaign from the primaries through significant milestones such as the presidential and vice presidential debates and the party conventions. Her relentless reporting during the election culminated in a five-day marathon until the election results were declared in November 2020.

Before her current position, Bruce was the senior congressional correspondent, where she played a key role in covering President Trump’s first impeachment trial and his second impeachment in 2021. Her exceptional reporting on Justice Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation in 2018 earned her the Joan S. Barone Award from her Capitol Hill peers. In 2020, she was recognized as the second most-featured reporter across all networks by the Tyndall Report.

During the 2016 presidential election, Bruce extensively traveled across the United States, contributing to ABC News’ coverage of the presidential campaigns.

Earlier in her career, Bruce was a multiplatform reporter, tackling stories from California wildfires to Pope Francis’ historic visit to Washington. She also reported internationally, covering Europe’s refugee crisis and several presidential trips overseas.

Bruce’s career at the White House began as a producer and digital journalist, where she reported on President Obama’s reelection campaign and his administration’s daily activities. Prior to becoming a correspondent, she worked as a segment producer for “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” overseeing interviews with 2008 presidential candidates and participating in ABC’s presidential debates. Bruce’s journey with ABC News started in 2006 when she joined as a desk assistant.
