Love stories often have unexpected twists, but few are as delightfully traditional as the journey of friendship to romance between Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa. These Celebrity Big Brother stars, who started out as friends, have now become one of the most talked-about couples in the entertainment world.
Now, Chris is opening up about the exact moment he realized his feelings had deepened—and the sweetly traditional way he confessed them.

Chris Hughes Shares the Pivotal Moment His Feelings for JoJo Siwa Changed
Chris Hughes didn’t just suspect he had feelings for JoJo Siwa—he expressed them in writing. The Love Island alum shared that during a visit to Florida for JoJo’s birthday, his emotions evolved from friendship to something deeper.
In his own words:
“I was confused about how I felt. Then I wasn’t confused anymore. I knew I needed to write it down to explain to her how I was feeling.”
He continued:
“I went to Florida thinking ‘I really like this person,’ but I wasn’t sure about my feelings. I had already prepared her birthday card before I flew out. I brought along all these gifts for her, which were more fun and sentimental rather than expensive.”

But the real turning point came the night before her birthday. Chris recalled:
“However, the night before her birthday, I realized my feelings had changed. I told her, ‘I’ve got to go do something. I’ll be back in a half-hour.’ I went to the hotel reception, borrowed a pen, and returned to the room.”
With a pen, he rewrote the original birthday card, pouring his feelings into it. This act was not just romantic—it signified the beginning of their relationship.
Why Writing Played a Key Role in Their Love Story
For Chris, writing isn’t a one-time occurrence—it’s a regular practice. He continues to send JoJo handwritten letters when they’re apart, considering it a meaningful way to remain connected.
“I like writing her letters. I don’t do it every day. But when we are apart and I miss her, I write to her. I like writing, and I like to see my handwriting.”
JoJo, who once identified as a lesbian before dating Chris, has openly praised his emotional support. In an Instagram Q&A, she gushed:
“No matter what I am feeling he is always there to help me with that feeling. Either celebrate a high one or get through a low one.”
Their bond has even sparked marriage talks, with Chris admitting:
“I’d love to marry her. I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I run through scenarios of our wedding day.”
