  • Ozzy Osbourne’s funeral will be a celebration rather than a somber event.
  • A public tribute in Birmingham is planned with stars like Yungblud expected to attend.

The music world is still reeling from the loss of Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary Black Sabbath frontman who passed away on July 22, 2025, at 76.

As tributes flow in from fans and fellow rock legends, details about his final farewell have surfaced—and, in true Ozzy fashion, it won’t be a solemn event.

A Celebration, Not a “Mope-Fest”

Ozzy had long made his funeral wishes clear: no sadness, just gratitude. In a 2011 interview with The Times, he insisted,

“There’ll be no harping on the bad times… I don’t want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say ‘thanks.’”

He even joked about playing tricks on mourners with “the sound of knocking inside the coffin” or a video of himself “asking my doctor for a second opinion on his diagnosis of ‘death.’”

By 2016, his musical preferences shifted slightly. Speaking to NME, he said,

“I really need a bit more time to think this over, but probably something from ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ or ‘Revolver.’ I definitely don’t want my greatest hits album, I never listen to that, it embarrasses me. And a happy song is out of the question, I’m dead.”

Birmingham’s Grand Tribute and Private Ceremony

Reports suggest a public celebration in Birmingham, the city where Black Sabbath was born—before a private family funeral. A source told The Sun,

“There are conversations about a celebration of his life in Birmingham, the city that meant so much to him.”

Artists like Yungblud, whom Ozzy saw as a torchbearer for rock, are expected to participate.

Fans have already turned landmarks like the Black Sabbath Bridge and the Ozzy the Bull statue into makeshift memorials, laying flowers and sharing emotional tributes. One fan, Lesley Paneras from Mexico, tearfully said, “He’s the Prince… he’s the King!”.

Stars Pay Their Respects

The outpouring of love from the music industry has been immense:

Elton John:

“He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer… I will miss him dearly.”.

Aerosmith:

“Ozzy redefined what it meant to be heavy. He did it all with heart, grit, and that wild spirit only he could bring.”.

Metallica:

“Hero, icon, pioneer, inspiration, mentor, and, most of all, friend.”.

Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath):

“Goodbye dear friend—thanks for all those years.”.

Yungblud:

“You took us on your adventure—an adventure that started it all.”.

Even The Muppets honored Ozzy, recalling his duet with Miss Piggy: “No one rocked harder.” .

Final Bow at Villa Park

Ozzy’s last performance was at Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in Birmingham on July 5, 2025, where 40,000 fans witnessed history.

Sitting on a black throne, he delivered a powerful goodbye: “Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”.
