Travis Hunter’s ascent to becoming the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and his remarkable role as a two-way player for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is a narrative steeped in family support and influence.
The Heisman Trophy recipient’s path to fame is a testament to the power of talent nurtured by a close-knit family. From his parents in Florida to his younger siblings in Georgia, Travis’s story is not just about his athletic prowess but also about the unwavering backing of his loved ones—the unsung heroes behind this NFL rookie’s rise.

Meet Travis Hunter’s Parents
Travis Hunter’s journey began with the strong foundation laid by his parents, Travis Hunter Sr. and Ferrante Edmonds. His father, Travis Sr., was an accomplished athlete himself, having pursued track and football in high school. His athletic journey continued into a semi-professional career, where he earned the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year in the Southern States Football League in 2007.
Ferrante Edmonds, Travis’s mother, has been a steadfast pillar of support. In March 2024, to express his gratitude, Travis surprised her with a new five-bedroom house in Savannah, Georgia, a touching moment he shared with his YouTube audience.

During his Heisman Trophy ceremony, his mother stood proudly by his side, while his father shared in the joy of his NFL Draft success.
A Shoutout to Grandma Shirley
And, of course, no story of familial support would be complete without mentioning his proud grandmother, Shirley Hunter, who has always been a cherished figure in Travis’s life.
She holds a special place in his story, as she was the one who first introduced him to the game of football when he was growing up in Palm Beach County, Florida. Her influence clearly stuck, and she celebrated his NFL dream coming true with her own watch party on draft night.
His Own Family: Wife Leanna and Newborn Son
A new family is now at the center of Hunter’s life. He and his wife, Leanna Lenee, began dating in high school in Suwanee, Georgia, and their relationship continued through his college years at Jackson State and Colorado. The couple got engaged in February 2024 and were married in May 2025.
Their family grew this year with the arrival of their first child, a son. Hunter and Leanna announced the birth with a vlog titled “Dear Son…” on YouTube, where the rookie was already giving his newborn some friendly future advice: “Got to be better than me”.
Travis Hunter Athletic Younger Siblings
The athletic talent in the Hunter family doesn’t stop with Travis. He has three younger siblings who are already making their own marks at his alma mater, Collins Hill High School.
- Trayvis Hunter: His younger brother is a three-star recruit in the class of 2027 who plays football for Collins Hill.
- Taylor Hunter: His younger sister also attends Collins Hill, where she plays basketball and runs track.
- Junior Hunter: The youngest sibling is currently in kindergarten and, following his older brothers’ footsteps, might just be the next phenom in the family.
