- Anas’ final message pleaded for the world to remember Gaza and his family.
The world was gripped with shock as Israel’s targeted strike on a Gaza media tent ended the life of one of Al Jazeera’s courageous reporters—Anas Al-Sharif. Beyond the tragedy reported in the media, he was a dedicated husband to Bayan Khalid and a caring father to Sham and Salah.
Their story is one of unwavering courage, heartbreaking separation, and a family torn apart by war.
Who Is Anas Al-Sharif’s Wife and Family?
Anas Al-Sharif’s spouse, Bayan Khalid, supported him through the most challenging times of Gaza’s blockade. Together, they nurtured two children—Sham, their lively daughter, and Salah, their baby son.
In his final message, written months before his death, Anas entrusted them to the world:
“I entrust you with my cherished daughter Sham, the light of my life, whom I never got the opportunity to watch grow up as I had hoped. I entrust you with my beloved son Salah, whom I wished to guide and be with throughout his life.”

Bayan, whom Anas described as “steadfast as the trunk of an olive tree,” endured long periods apart while he reported from the frontlines in Gaza. Their love story was tragically brief, yet her resilience remains steadfast.

A Father’s Heartbreak: Anas and His Children
Anas treasured every second with his children, even as the conflict robbed them of time together. A widely-shared video captures him playing with Sham, inquiring whether she’d ever leave Gaza. She firmly replied, “I want to stay,” and he smiled—“We’re not leaving.”
Yet, the war forced painful sacrifices. He missed Salah’s first steps and Sham’s milestones. In his last words, he pleaded:
“Care for my family… my wife, Umm Salah (Bayan), from whom the war separated me for many long days and months.”
The Final Goodbye: Anas’ Last Message
Minutes before the deadly strike, Anas posted:
“Breaking: Intense, concentrated Israeli bombardment using ‘fire belts’ is hitting the eastern and southern areas of Gaza City.”
His prewritten farewell, shared posthumously, echoed his lifelong mission:
“I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification… Do not forget Gaza.”
