Jumaane Williams has held the role of New York City’s Public Advocate since March 2019, following a special election victory to replace Letitia James.

Born on May 11, 1976, Williams is an American politician and activist. He is also a first-generation Brooklyn resident of Grenadian descent.

Highlights

  • Jumaane Williams enjoys a six-figure salary from his recent Public Advocate for New York City job.
  • Williams will serve as acting mayor if Eric Adams steps down or is ousted.
  • Despite being an acting mayor, he will receive the same salary as the mayor for the duration of his term.

Williams is an alumnus of Brooklyn Technical High School and went on to Brooklyn College, where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2001, and a Master of Arts in Urban Policy and Administration in 2005.

Furthermore, Williams has experience in community organizing and public service.

Currently, Williams is in the spotlight as a potential successor to Mayor Eric Adams, in the event that Adams leaves office or is ousted due to new federal allegations against him.

Thanks to significant career advancements, Williams’ increased likelihood of becoming mayor has sparked a growing curiosity about his financial status.

Thus, this has drawn public interest toward his net worth. So, how rich is he?

Jumaane Williams’ Net Worth Going To Boost After Becoming NYC Acting Mayor

Jumaane Williams’ net worth is expected to rise significantly if he becomes New York City’s acting mayor.

According to news, he’s next in line to take over from Mayor Eric Adams. Adams’ chances of losing the position are higher in the current situation.

As NYC Public Advocate, Williams will take on mayoral tasks until a special vote happens.

Right now, people think his net worth is between $500,000 and $1 million

The number might seem modest compared to other politicians shows. However, it also shows his dedication to public service and advocacy.

Speaking of Williams’ salary, his job as a public advocate pays him $184,800 yearly. Furthermore, he is the second-highest elected city official.

Similarly, before his current job, Williams was on the New York City Council for ten years. There he reportedly made about $148,500 a year.

Mayor Eric Adams, on the other hand, gets paid $258,750. This puts him among the top-paid city workers.

However, reports indicate Mayor Adams’ paycheck is less than some of his top aides, who earn upwards of $275,000.

Similarly, the news suggests that if Williams steps into the role of acting mayor, his salary will align with that of the mayor.

Indeed, regardless of whether Williams serves in an acting or permanent capacity, he will be making good fortune. Therefore, this new salary is likely to further boost his financial standing.

Jumaane Williams To Replace Mayor Eric Adams Following Federal Indictment

Jumaane Williams might step in as New York City Mayor if Eric Adams steps down or is ousted from office due to his recent federal charges.

The accusations against Adams are heavy, marking a big moment in the city’s past. Also, the case grabs more attention as he’s the first sitting mayor to face such legal issues.

Now, you might ask what these charges are. Well, the feds have hit Adams with several charges, including taking bribes, plotting, and breaking campaign money rules.

These claims come from looking into his 2021 run for mayor, focusing on shady money from foreign groups from Turkey.

Likewise, the prosecutors also say Adams got over $100,000 in fancy travel perks from foreign sources, which he didn’t report right.

The charges made public on September 26, 2024, have caught everyone’s eye and made people wonder about Adams’ future in politics.

Should Adams resign, Williams, who holds the position of NYC Public Advocate, would take on the role of acting mayor.

Williams’ potential time in charge might usher in a new era at City Hall as the legal case against Adams moves forward.
