Final Performance and Tributes
Osbourne’s final concert, Back to the Beginning, brought together Black Sabbath’s original members once more. The event also featured performances by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and others, successfully raising $190 million for charity.
Fans worldwide paid tribute, with Elton John calling him a “dear friend and trailblazer”. Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi shared:
“We’ve lost our brother. There won’t ever be another like him.”
A public procession in Birmingham honored his life, while a private funeral featured a floral tribute spelling “OZZY F—ING OSBOURNE”.
His Legacy and Last Wishes
Osbourne’s impact was felt beyond music. His reality show, The Osbournes, turned him into a pop culture icon. He was twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—once with Black Sabbath in 2006 and again as a solo artist in 2024.
In a 2011 Times column, he joked about his funeral:
“They can play Justin Bieber if it makes ’em happy. I want pranks—knocking from inside the coffin!”
True to his spirit, his family ensured the memorial celebrated his life rather than mourning his death.
