- Sam Faiers claims her kids don’t need sunscreen due to built-up sun tolerance.
- She alleges many SPF brands contain harmful chemicals.
- Dermatologists warn UV exposure causes irreversible skin damage.
- Experts recommend mineral-based sunscreen for children.
Reality TV personality Sam Faiers is under fire after revealing her children don’t use sunscreen, alleging that many SPF products have “toxic ingredients.”
The former TOWIE star, who has three children with partner Paul Knightley, suggested they’ve “grown a resistance to the sun” without sunscreen, a statement dermatologists warn is hazardous misinformation. Critics, including health experts, caution that this can result in permanent skin damage.

Sam’s Controversial Sunscreen Stance
In a now-deleted Instagram story, Faiers defended her family’s sun habits, stating:
“The kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun”
and that most sunscreens are “full of toxic ingredients”.
Fans and health professionals quickly challenged her. One critic wrote:
“ANY sun colour is a form of burning. There’s no such thing as tanning safely”.

Another added:
“She should know better, young skin is so vulnerable”.
Dr. Nora Jaafar, a dermatologist, refuted Faiers’ claims, explaining:
“UV radiation causes cumulative DNA damage, even without visible sunburn”.
She emphasized that children’s thinner skin makes protection critical.
Why Experts Disagree
Dr. Jaafar emphasized that UK/EU sunscreens are subject to rigorous safety evaluations, dismissing concerns over toxicity as “misinformation.” For parents seeking safer options, she suggests using mineral-based SPF with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
Despite this, Faiers’ followers remain divided. Some defended her: “
Some people tan easily, he probably takes after his mum”.
Others insisted:
“If they go brown, they’ve damaged their skin”.
A Pattern of Parenting Debates
This isn’t the first occurrence of Faiers’ parenting decisions stirring controversy. Earlier this year, she faced criticism after sharing pictures of her son Paul with a distinct tan, which led fans to criticize her for not using adequate sun protection.
Her approach contrasts with dermatologists’ advice. Dr. Jaafar stressed:
“Skin cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer, sunscreen plays a crucial role”.
