Nicky Mayorkas, a citizen of Cuba who was of Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish descent, was in charge of a steel wool factory in Havana.

His major at Dartmouth College was economics, and he attended there.

In the 1940s, Anita, a Jewish woman from Romania, and her family made the journey to Cuba to escape the Holocaust.

Immediately following the revolution that took place in Cuba, they moved to the United States.

The early years of Alejandro’s life reflect his family’s journey; he was born in Havana in 1959, and he and his parents escaped to the United States as refugees in 1960. They initially settled in Miami, and later, they moved to Los Angeles.
