On Tuesday morning at least 19 children and two teachers were killed when a high school student opened fire inside an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in what has become the state’s deadliest school shooting in history.

The shooting is the latest in a long line of gun violence in the United States. Before Tuesday, there had been at least 39 shootings in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities in 2022, resulting in at least ten deaths and 51 injuries.

NBC 5 has confirmed the identities of two of the 21 victims so far: Eva Mireles and10-year-old Uziyah Garcia, a fourth-grade teacher in her early 40s. Eva Mireles’ aunt, Lydia M. Delgado, confirmed Eva’s death in Tuesday’s Robb Elementary School attack.

Irma Garza was a teacher killed in the Texas elementary school shooting. Xavier Lopez, a fourth-grade student, was killed Tuesday when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Angel Garza, Amerie Jo Garza’s father, confirmed her death. Eliahana ‘Elijah Cruz’ Torres, 10, was also among those killed.

According to Delgado, Eva had been a teacher for 17 years, and she took pride in teaching mostly students of Latino heritage. Eva was a hiker who was “very loved” and the “life of the party.”

Uziyah was in fourth grade and would have turned ten this summer. Uziyah’s aunt, Nikki Cross, confirmed his death and shared a photo of him.
