CHICAGO (WLS) — At least 16 people have been shot, four fatally, in shootings across Chicago this weekend, police said.

This weekend’s gun violence follows a previous incident over the lengthy Labor Day holiday, in which at least 58 people were shot, eight of them fatally, in various parts of the city.

Friday night, a South Loop business employee fatally shot a man during a fight, Chicago police said.

According to police, a shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. at a business located near East 13th Street and Michigan Avenue. A 31-year-old man got into an altercation with a 32-year-old employee. During their struggle, the worker brandished a gun, which accidentally went off, hitting the 31-year-old man in the head.

The Chicago Fire Department treated the man, but he died at the scene.

Officers took the worker into custody and recovered a gun from the scene. Charges are pending, and Area Three detectives are investigating.

Saturday morning, a man was shot to death on the city’s West Side, Chicago police said.

Authorities reported another shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the 3000 block of West Polk Street shortly before 10:15 a.m. A man was outside when someone opened fire, striking him multiple times, according to police.

The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately released.

What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear. No one is in custody, and area detectives are investigating.

Within the same hour Saturday, a man was found shot to death inside a home on city’s South Side, Chicago police said.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was found around 10:49 a.m. at a residence in the 300 block of West 93rd Street in Princeton Park, police said.

He had a gunshot wound to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene, CPD said. His identity was not yet known.

The exact circumstances of the shooting were also not known. Chicago police detectives are conducting a homicide investigation, officials said.

Sunday morning, a man was shot to death near a CTA station on the city’s Southwest Side, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the 3500-block of S. Leavitt Street, outside the CTA Orange Line 35th/Archer Station, police said.

A 26-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Chicago police said he died at the scene.

Police added that the man was found outside of CTA property. Nobody is in custody.

No further information on the shootings this weekend was available as police continue to investigate the cases.
