3 Students in Critical Condition After Shooting at Colorado High School

A 16-year-old student at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, Colorado, opened fire on Wednesday, injuring two other students before ending his own life.

According to The Denver Post, one of the injured students remains in critical condition. The incident prompted the arrival of hundreds of law enforcement officers at the scene shortly after 12:24 p.m.

The other injured student is currently in stable condition.

The attack occurred both inside and outside the school, with a quick response from law enforcement. A fourth student was hurt while escaping the area.

Authorities have yet to disclose the shooter’s identity, but Denver’s ABC 7 reported that police were spotted searching his home near Corwina Park on Wednesday evening.

“Naturally, our attention will be on the suspect’s home, vehicle, locker, and all relevant aspects to understand more about him and possibly uncover why this occurred,” stated Jacki Kelley, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

So far, it’s unclear what was found inside the shooter’s home.

CrimeOnline previously reported that a mother revealed her freshman son was close to a door in the cafeteria when the shooting began, and he heard between 15 to 30 gunshots.

“I know they’ve done drills at school in classrooms, but they were at lunch,” she said. “So that’s what, something that many students have said is that they just didn’t even know what to do, like a lockdown drill, with this happening at lunch.”

According to FOX 31, the last shooting is one of 13 school shootings that have taken place in Colorado in an over 50-year time span.
