R. Kelly Overdoses on Prison-Issued Meds Amid Alleged Murder Plot: Lawyer

Musician R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison term following his conviction on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Recently, the Supreme Court chose not to review an appeal, which argued that the prosecution had “stretched” legal boundaries in his convictions. Last month, the justices rejected this appeal.

Now, Kelly wants to be released to home detention, claiming that federal authorities are plotting to kill Kelly in prison. A defense motion claims Kelly’s former cellmate conspired with prison officials to steal mail between him and his attorneys and turn it over to prosecutors before his trial.

Kelly’s attorneys also claimed prison officials recruited a fellow prison inmate to kill Kelly to keep him from exposing the plot.
