A late-night rideshare service took a dangerous turn when a driver’s vehicle was stolen shortly after he dropped off a passenger on Peachey Road in Davoren Park around 1 a.m. The suspect threatened the driver before speeding off in the sedan.
About 30 minutes later, the stolen car was spotted on Hancock Road in Redwood Park. In a dramatic twist, the vehicle crashed through a roundabout, leaving a trail of sparks as it flipped and skidded down the road.
Surveillance footage captured the dramatic scene of the crash, showing the car’s fiery slide as it overturned.
Eyewitnesses rushed to the scene to offer assistance, but, to their astonishment, the driver emerged from the wreckage and casually walked away.
“It’s unbelievable how someone can act so unfazed after such a potentially deadly accident,” one witness shared with 9News.
The suspect, described as a man aged between 35 and 45 with unkempt brown hair and a beard, remains at large as police continue their search.
The driver who had his car stolen was uninjured, although he was badly shaken up.
“They’re doing us a favour at the end of the day, they’re trying to get us home safely,” the witness said.
“And they go and do that, it’s actually pretty pathetic.”
