An Alabama man is behind bars after allegedly stealing an ambulance from a crime scene, leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday.
According to ABC 7, an argument between two men on Saturday morning, just before 10 a.m., turned deadly outside the Downey City Library when one man was fatally stabbed.
Witness Abraham Mancilla recalled, “The men were arguing right here. One, wearing a flannel, drew a knife and began stabbing the other. The victim fell, and even then, the assailant struck again at the neck, causing the bleeding and all that.”
As first responders were trying to save the stabbing victim, a man uninvolved in the stabbing took off in their ambulance.
KTLA reported that video from the Embassy Suites, located across from the library, showed officers chasing the ambulance as the man sped away.
A lady can be heard yelling, “He’s stealing the ambulance!”
While law enforcement pursued an ambulance for 10 miles, it collided with multiple parked cars in a residential neighborhood before finally stopping upon crashing into a truck. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident, as noted by ABC7.
Footage from the Citizen app revealed an embarrassing moment for the alleged ambulance thief when, during his arrest, his pants dropped to his ankles, leaving him partially exposed, a report by KTLA highlighted.
The stabbing suspect fled the scene on foot. Later, a 27-year-old homeless individual was captured and detained at Downey High School, located behind the library, ABC7 reported.
