Authorities announced Johnson’s arrest on Wednesday. He faces charges of felony battery, which include causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or disfigurement. The breakthrough in the case came after media exposure led to crucial tips that were subsequently reported to CrimeStoppers, aiding in Johnson’s identification.

The altercation occurred on the evening of October 11, when surveillance footage captured a confrontation between Johnson and the victim, who was accompanied by a service dog. The video shows the two men engaging in a heated verbal exchange within an aisle of the supermarket.

Further footage reveals the victim exiting the store alongside his service dog, when Johnson allegedly approached and struck him. This unexpected assault reportedly caused the victim to fall and hit his head severely on the floor. According to police, Johnson had waited outside the store before delivering the “sucker punch” to the unsuspecting man.

The victim’s family shared their distress with local media, explaining that he remains in a coma due to the “permanent injuries” sustained during the attack. As reported by WPLG, a local independent news station, the victim continues to be hospitalized, fighting for recovery.

In their interviews with local media, the victim’s family said that the man was in a coma after sustaining “permanent injuries.” Local independent news station WPLG reported that the man is still hospitalized in a coma.

WPLG reported that Johnson made a court appearance on Thursday. He reportedly told the judge that the other man’s service dog attacked him, which was what led to the alleged attack.

The judge set Johnson’s bond at $100,000 and ruled that if he posts bond, he will have to wear an ankle monitor and stay away from the Aldi store.
