If you’re one of the many fans missing ABC’s hit crime drama The Rookie, you’re certainly not the only one. A recent revisit to a segment featuring Nathan Fillion on Live with Kelly and Mark revealed how the show cleverly inserts “fake red herrings” to mislead avid online sleuths who can’t get enough of the series.

Love it. Watching The Rookie is like trying to solve a mystery within a mystery.

The seventh season of The Rookie concluded in May. When will the show be back with new episodes? Here’s when The Rookie Season 8 premieres on ABC.

Is The Rookie On ABC Tonight (6/24/25)?

Nope. The season finale of The Rookie aired Tuesday, May 13 on ABC.

This evening is dedicated to replays, starting with Episode 4 of Scamanda airing from 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET, followed by consecutive reruns of 9-1-1 with episodes titled “Don’t Drink The Water” and “Seismic Shifts.”

How Many Episodes Are There of The Rookie Season 7?

The seventh season of The Rookie consists of 18 total episodes.

Will There Be a Season 8 of The Rookie?

Yes! ABC renewed The Rookie for an eighth season back in April 2025. Per Deadline, the upcoming season is expected to consist of 18 episodes.

When Will The Rookie Return?

Regrettably, The Rookie isn’t included in ABC’s upcoming fall lineup for 2025. Similar to the previous year, the network plans to reserve The Rookie and Will Trent for the midseason slot. While no official premiere date is set, the production of Season 8 of The Rookie has already commenced, and it’s anticipated to make its return in January 2026.

Per Screen Rant, the cast is currently filming in Prague, which reminds me of this classic scene from Kicking and Screaming.

Jane: You’ve never even been to Prague.

Grover: Oh, I’ve been to Prague. Well, I haven’t “been to Prague” been to Prague, but I know that thing, that, “Stop shaving your armpits, read the Unbearable Lightness of Being, date a sculptor, now I know how bad American coffee is thing…
