Missing University of Houston Student Found Dead, Investigation Underway

A body was found in a bayou on Wednesday — marking the seventh body recovered from a Texas city’s waterway in the last month.

The Houston Public Media announced that authorities discovered a man’s body in White Oak Bayou following a drowning report received by Houston police. Officials do not suspect foul play, though the cause of death remains undetermined.

This marks the seventh instance of a deceased person found in a Houston-area bayou over the past month. On September 15, Jade McKissic, a University of Houston student, was discovered in Brays Bayou, having disappeared near the campus five days before her body was found. Similar to the most recent case, Jade’s death shows no suspicions of foul play.

Chron reported that 16 bodies have been found in local bayous this year. The previous year, 25 bodies were recovered from local bayous.

Last month, Houston officials dispelled rumors about a serial killer in the city, claiming the deaths appeared unconnected.

“Enough is enough with the speculation,” declared Houston Mayor John Whitmire, emphasizing respect for the families concerned and the 2.3 million residents in the region. “We face challenges and are addressing them, but a serial killer on the loose in Houston is not among these challenges today.”

According to Chron, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified five individuals found in bayous since September 15, including McKissic. However, the identity of the man discovered in White Oak Bayou on Wednesday has not been publicly disclosed by officials.
