An Army sergeant, who had been convicted of over two dozen serious offenses including rape, burglary, kidnapping, and attempted murder, was discovered dead in his cell at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, last week.

Greville Clarke, aged 32, received a life sentence in April for a series of crimes committed over an 18-month span from 2021 to 2022 at what was then named Fort Cavazos, a military installation later renamed Fort Hood in recognition of a Confederate general from the Civil War, as reported by Stars and Stripes.

Clarke faced accusations and convictions for breaking into the barracks rooms of five different women and committing robberies, according to CrimeOnline. In these incidents, he held two women at gunpoint and attempted to strangle one with a lamp cord, believing he had killed her.

The Army did not provide a cause of death for Clarke but said his death was under investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Division.

Per Stars and Stripes, Clarke did not participate in his court-martial proceedings as he was placed under continuous observation at the Bell County Jail due to concerns about potential self-harm.
