In Texas, authorities have apprehended the suspect responsible for a hit-and-run incident involving a jet ski that tragically resulted in the death of a kayaker at Grapevine Lake over the weekend. Officials from the US Air Force Academy confirmed that the victim had recently received an appointment to join the academy’s class of 2029.

Ava Renee Moore, aged 18, was fatally struck by the jet ski late Sunday afternoon, according to a report by CrimeOnline. The watercraft was occupied by two women at the time, but the operator fled the scene with an unidentified man, also causing a vehicle collision in the parking lot on their way out. The passenger stayed behind and provided information to first responders, leading investigators to release a photograph of the suspect.

On Tuesday, Grapevine Police announced the arrest of Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, although they did not specify the exact charges against her. As per WFAA, she is facing charges of reckless operation and excessive speed of a personal watercraft, along with leaving the scene of a fatal incident. Her bail has been set at $500,000.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said a second person was arrested but did not identify that person or say what charges they face.

Air Force Academy officials said that Moore graduated the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School on May 19, KKTV reported.

“We lost an exemplary teammate this weekend – Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, whose passion for leadership and service left an impact on everyone she met,” academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Tony Baurnfeind said in a statement> “Ava’s constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School, and her drive to excel was on display as she sought out leadership positions to improve herself and her team.”

Butternfeind said that Moore played on the prep school’s women’s basketbatll team and that the academy was “focused on providing support to Ava’s family, her Prep School Squadron, the Prep School Women’s Basketball team, and the entire Academy family.”
