A man has been charged over an alleged plot to import liquid methamphetamine hidden inside bottles of cordial and oil.

The 59-year-old man will front court today after ABF officers in Perth identified two “suspicious” air cargo shipments from Malaysia last week.

A drug-detecting dog returned a positive result for the bottles of cordial and oil, found in the shipment.

Presumptive testing of the liquid returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

AFP officers were alerted, and 27 bottles were seized, allegedly totalling 33 litres of liquid methamphetamine.

The liquid in the bottles was replaced with another substance, and the package was delivered to the alleged intended address on July 18 – an industrial unit in Rockingham.

Police allege the 59-year-old man took possession of the packages before opening them and taking photos of the bottles.

He left the unit and returned to his home in Kelmscott, where he was arrested.

A search warrant of the industrial unit and his home allegedly uncovered the consignments, $45,000 in cash found in a freezer, small quantities of what’s believed to be meth and cannabis, ammunition, a crossbow and mobile devices.

Police are investigating the source of the cash and other people involved in the alleged trafficking ring.
