Authorities Investigating Weekend Shooting Incidents

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is looking into two shootings that took place over the weekend: one happened Saturday in Linton Oaks, and another occurred today in Newberry.

One person was shot yesterday in Linton Oaks and was transported to a hospital. No further information is currently available about this incident.

Earlier today, an individual was shot on NW 7th Place near NW 252nd Street in Newberry and was taken to the hospital. Authorities have taken into custody a person suspected to be responsible for the shooting.

The ASO confirmed that they have found the firearm involved in the Newberry shooting and believe that the suspect and the victim were known to each other. Officers are expected to remain at the location for a while, but the ASO assures the community that there is no current risk to public safety.
