This alarming event took place early Friday morning, around 7:30 a.m., on Madison Avenue, in the 7900 block. The suspect, identified as Ronald J. Loftis, aged 47, is accused of approaching the victim with a firearm, demanding money, and subsequently engaging in a struggle when she claimed to have none. During the altercation, the gun discharged, injuring the woman in the face.

In a statement, police highlighted the reckless nature of the crime, noting its potential to endanger both the victim and the young child present at the scene.

The victim’s daughter recounted to WJW, a local Fox affiliate, the chilling moment when Loftis allegedly tossed the toddler out of the vehicle into the snow before making his escape. The stolen car was recovered shortly after the incident, leading investigators to identify Loftis as the primary suspect.

Law enforcement officers apprehended Loftis at a residence on Cleveland’s east side the following Saturday. He currently faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery, and is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Officers arrested Loftis on Saturday at a home on the city’s east side. He was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery.

“This was a senseless and violent crime carried out with complete disregard for human life,” Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy A. Todd said in a statement. “Because of the decisive and relentless work of our officers and detectives, this dangerous individual is now off our streets. Our thoughts are with the victim as she recovers from this traumatic event. We are grateful that she is in stable condition and that the child who was with her was not physically harmed.”

Loftis went before a judge on Monday morning where he received a $500,000 bond. His next court date is set for Jan. 13.
