New York officials ruled on Thursday that Food Network star Anne Burrell took her own life in June.
The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Burrell’s death was a suicide, citing “acute intoxication” as the cause, resulting from the combined effects of alcohol, amphetamine, and antihistamines. According to The New York Times, police had earlier reported that Burrell, aged 55, was discovered deceased in her Brooklyn residence on June 17, surrounded by around 100 pills.
In January, it was disclosed that Burrell would not be hosting “America’s Worst Cooks.” When an Instagram user inquired about her absence in the upcoming season, Burrell replied, “Honestly I don’t know.”
The evening prior to her passing, Burrell reportedly performed improv for the first time at a venue in Brooklyn. The next morning, her husband is said to have found her unresponsive and immediately alerted 911.
Burrell’s family has not yet commented on the coroner’s report.
