In a chilling incident in Pennsylvania, a man allegedly shot his wife to death after a heated argument and then called her mother to break the tragic news. The suspect, 59-year-old Jose Luna, is now facing multiple charges including first-degree and third-degree murder, as well as illegal firearm possession, following the death of his wife, 48-year-old Alisett Schubert. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and court records confirmed these charges, revealing that the fatal event took place on a Saturday night.
The couple had been attending a party earlier that evening. Luna reportedly claimed that his wife had “disrespected him in front of others,” which sparked his anger, according to an affidavit of probable cause cited by The Philadelphia Inquirer. The tension between them escalated as Schubert drove them home in her silver Nissan Murano, leading to a confrontation.
As they approached the intersection of Fillmore Street and Huntingdon Pike in Rockledge, Schubert allegedly instructed Luna to get out of the vehicle and walk home. This directive led to a struggle over a .38 caliber revolver that Schubert had in her purse. Luna managed to seize the firearm and, according to the affidavit, shot his wife.
In a desperate attempt to escape, Schubert reportedly screamed, “Oh my god!” but Luna allegedly fired four additional shots at her, as she tried to flee the SUV.
A bus driver for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) happened to be in the vicinity at that time. According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the driver encountered a vehicle stopped on the road and heard two or three “pops.” He then observed a man exit the passenger seat and open the driver’s side door, providing a crucial eyewitness account of the incident.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) bus driver was driving in the area when he “approached a vehicle that was stopped on the roadway.” He said he heard two or three “pops” and then saw a man “exit the front passenger seat, then open the driver’s side door.”
When he opened the door, he said a woman — later identified as Schubert — “fell out of the vehicle.”
At about 10:05 p.m., the bus driver “used his emergency system” to report a shooting, and he described the suspect. Police responded to the area and found Schubert on the ground outside of her vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transferred to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Philadelphia police officers found Luna one mile away, and as they approached, “he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, but the firearm was out of ammunition,” the DA’s office added. He was arrested.
After allegedly shooting his wife, Luna reportedly called her mother to tell the woman her daughter was dead and that he wanted to kill himself, though he did not provide specifics as to how she died.
Luna had been abusive before, according to the document obtained by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which said that Schubert had told a friend Luna was physically and mentally abusing her and the friend had once seen Luna punch his wife in the face.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on March 5.
