The boyfriend of a missing Arizona woman has been taken into custody after allegedly stealing and damaging her vehicle, which was found with traces of blood inside.
Isabella Comas, 21, was last seen departing a friend’s residence on January 11, according to Avondale police. Her phone emerged at a recycling facility a day after her disappearance, and by January 13, her car was located in Phoenix, as reported by KSAZ.
Tommy Rodriguez, 39, was apprehended on January 15 upon his return from California. He reportedly confessed to having a disagreement with Comas the day before she went missing, although police have pointed out discrepancies in his account.
Investigators revealed that surveillance and license plate reader footage captured Rodriguez operating Comas’ vehicle on January 12. They discovered that the passenger seat and trunk lining were removed, and the car was stained with blood. According to KNXV, gas canisters, trash bags, and a tarp were also found inside the vehicle.
Authorities also mentioned that a tracking app on Comas’ phone was deactivated manually shortly after her disappearance.
Though Rodriguez has not been officially charged with Comas’ disappearance, he was unable to provide information on her whereabouts. KNXV noted Rodriguez’s extensive criminal record, including a previous conviction for second-degree murder. He is currently on probation for a 2020 incident involving the stalking of an ex-girlfriend, during which he threatened her with a hammer and machete.
Comas was described as standing 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing about 110 pounds, and having brown eyes and pink hair. She was last seen wearing a baggy navy-blue shirt, blue pants with a white stripe down the side, and sandals.
Anyone with information regarding Comas’ whereabouts is asked to call the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7000.
