Authorities in Georgia have confirmed the tragic discovery of a missing man, James “Greg” Powell, in Bartow County. The Canton Police Department announced that the 61-year-old resident of Canton, who had been unaccounted for since earlier this month, was found deceased.
The unfolding of events began when Powell left his home in Cherokee County with his dog, Ally, on the morning of November 2. His vehicle was subsequently found parked near the River Green Tennis Courts in Canton. However, Powell, who had initially left Ally with a sitter, never made it back home.
His body was later discovered in the Red Top Mountain area, prompting a collaborative effort between Canton and Bartow County police to confirm his identity.
At this time, investigators have found no signs of foul play, although the exact cause and manner of Powell’s death remain under investigation.
His body was located in the Red Top Mountain area of Bartow County. Canton police then helped Bartow County police identify him.
So far, there is no indication of foul play and the cause and manner of death are pending, police said.
The Bartow County Coroner’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will help determine how he died.
The story is developing. Check back for updates.
