An Indiana woman who vanished after a house fire last week has been found safe.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported that Britney Gard, age 46, was found by police on Wednesday in a wooded area approximately 2.5 miles from her home in Putnam County.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, she was last seen September 30, after a fire at her home off County Road 600 North.

Police said that fire investigators, who are still working to determine what happened, indicated that the fire to be suspicious.

Gard left behind her purse and vehicle, according to her sister.

Earlier, the sheriff’s office mentioned that the fire was contained to a specific area of Gard’s home. More details are anticipated once the investigation concludes.

“She is being cleared by medical staff now,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook Wednesday. “No further details are available at this time.”
