Authorities have confirmed that a body found on Christmas Day belongs to an Ohio doctor who went missing in late November.
The body of Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu was discovered by passersby in a pond located in Springfield Township’s Stone Oak area, according to Lt. Jon Leach of the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office has determined that Dr. Iwuagwu, 71, drowned, and there is no evidence of foul play involved in his death, as reported by WTVG.
Dr. Iwuagwu was last seen by his family at his office on November 24. Despite his daughter receiving location updates from his phone, police were unable to locate him at those sites.
His disappearance followed shortly after a hospital release, and while his phone remained missing, it had emitted signals from a cell tower in the Holland and Springfield Townships area, where search efforts were concentrated.
Professionally, Dr. Iwuagwu was dedicated to geriatric medicine, serving both as a physician at UToledo Health and as a professor at the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
The investigation into the circumstances leading to Dr. Iwuagwu’s tragic death continues.
