Update: Teen Charged With Murder After Mom Found Dead in Trash Bin

A tragic discovery unfolded in Oklahoma this week, as a 49-year-old woman was found deceased in a trash can at her residence, and her adopted teenage son now faces charges in connection with her death.

Authorities from Logan County conducted a welfare check at the home of Spring Weems on Wednesday after receiving an anonymous tip reporting her absence had become noticeable, as detailed by KOCO.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered two teenagers and quickly realized that the homeowner, Weems, was unaccounted for. A search of the premises led to the grim discovery of Weems’ body, showing signs of foul play, as reported by CrimeOnline.

In light of the evidence and information gathered, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation announced that one of the teens was taken into custody and would be transferred to a juvenile detention center.

According to a neighbor’s account to KOCO, she witnessed an altercation between the two teenagers in the yard, during which one allegedly accused the other of killing Weems.

“It was during the further search of the property that they found her,” confirmed Hunter McKee, the public information manager for OSBI.

Investigators say that Weems was a single mother with three adopted children, KWTV reported. McKee said agents had not determined a motive. Investigators are awaiting results of an autopsy for cause and manner of death.

The boy is being held at the Canadian County Juvenile Center, charged with first degree murder, according to KOCO.
