A woman is facing charges for the murder of an 84-year-old grandmother in a domestic violence case that took place last month in Sydney’s north-west.

The authorities launched Strike Force Vado to delve into the incident after Irene Selmes was discovered deceased in her bed on Comet Street in Melonba, near Marsden Park, at approximately 12:30 p.m. on October 4.

Police secured the area as a crime scene and began probing what they deemed a suspicious death.

A subsequent autopsy revealed that Selmes, who reportedly resided with her son, his partner, and their children, had sustained “significant injuries” prior to her death, according to police statements.

Earlier today, around 3 p.m., a 50-year-old woman known to the elderly victim was apprehended on Comet Street.

She was escorted to the Mount Druitt police station, where she was formally charged with murder in connection to domestic violence.

She was refused bail to face Mount Druitt Local Court tomorrow.
