Michael McKee now faces four counts of aggravated murder related to the deaths of his former spouse, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Spencer, as his charges have been elevated.
The formal indictment reveals that McKee used a firearm equipped with a silencer during the incident. Additionally, he is charged with aggravated burglary, accused of unlawfully entering the Tepe residence to carry out the killings.
Authorities have identified McKee as the individual caught on surveillance footage walking through the alley behind the Tepe house between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the day of the tragic events.
Detectives utilized license plate readers and surveillance tools to trace McKee’s journey, noting that he drove roughly 325 miles from Illinois to Columbus, Ohio, arriving just before and departing shortly after the murders occurred.
While investigators have yet to disclose a specific motive behind the crime, they have classified the murders as related to domestic violence.
McKee’s marriage to Monique was brief, ending in divorce in 2017. However, an administrative mistake led to the divorce case being revisited, with a new hearing scheduled for June and a trial date set for September, mere months prior to the killings.
When court officials determine it is a clerical error, the court date for September is cancelled.
