A California couple and the child’s grandmother are facing serious allegations of murder and torture following the death of their 8-year-old son. Authorities claim the boy’s body was subsequently concealed in a cooler filled with ice.

“The appalling mistreatment Isaiah suffered is compounded by the fact that those responsible were the very individuals who should have cherished and safeguarded him,” stated Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman in a press release on Friday. This announcement detailed the arrests of 25-year-olds Destiny Harrison and Daniel Monzon, alongside 45-year-old Ana Carcamo Zarceno.

The three suspects are charged with murder, torture, and child abuse resulting in death. Additionally, Monzon and Zarceno, the latter being the boy’s paternal grandmother, face charges as accessories after the crime. They are accused of inflicting deliberate harm on Isaiah H., leading to his tragic demise.

Authorities also discovered three other children, aged 16, 13, and just 9 months, at the Lynwood residence where Isaiah’s death occurred. These children have been placed under the care of the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services, according to reports from local CW affiliate KTLA.

Neighbors described Harrison as a seemingly ordinary individual who would often be seen walking her dog and collecting her children from the school bus. “She appeared calm and like a normal person,” one resident commented.

Christian Torres, a nearby resident, shared with local NBC affiliate KNBC that he frequently observed the children playing outside, under the watchful eye of their mother.

“She would always be out here with her dog,” Torres said. “She would smile, would say ‘hi.’ Nothing out of the ordinary.”

According to prosecutors, Isaiah was allegedly abused “over a long period of time” before he eventually “succumbed to his injuries” on Oct. 24. “His body was found days later in a cooler filled with ice,” the DA’s office said in its release.

A cause of death has not yet been released.

Bail for Harrison, Monzon and Zarceno has been set at $2 million for each of them. They all face 32 years to life in state prison, if convicted.

“This is an unimaginable and horrific tragedy,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn in a statement. “My heart breaks for what the other children in this home must have experienced, and it’s critical that our Department of Children and Family Services do everything possible to support them and keep them safe in protective custody.”
