ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – While jails are often perceived merely as punitive institutions, the facility in Alachua County offers inmates a pivotal opportunity. Here, individuals can tackle addiction issues, complete their education, or get ready for their return to society.

For almost 30 years, the Alachua County Commission has relied on the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) to run the local jail. The County is responsible for funding maintenance, programs, and staffing, whereas the ACSO takes care of daily operations and inmate welfare.

“We’re proud of this strong partnership between County government and the Sheriff’s Office,” said Alachua County Manager Michele Lieberman. “Together, we’re committed to ensuring public safety, upholding the law with integrity, and providing responsible, efficient correctional services that reflect the values of our community.”
